Life experiences shape a person. Norma uses her experience along with her education to engage, support and treat individuals who want to create positive change in their own lives. At Coastal Counseling, LLC, Norma provides the highest quality clinical services in a safe and accepting environment.
Norma grew up in a small town in Missouri, earned her BS in Organizational Communication (minored in Social Work) from Central Missouri State University, worked in Colorado then California; went back to Missouri and found her way to Virginia where she earned dual Masters degrees in Christian Education (Union Seminary) and Social Work (
Norma grew up in a small town in Missouri, earned her BS in Organizational Communication (minored in Social Work) from Central Missouri State University, worked in Colorado then California; went back to Missouri and found her way to Virginia where she earned dual Masters degrees in Christian Education (Union Seminary) and Social Work (Virginia Commonwealth University). While serving in public and private agencies focused on Child Welfare, Norma earned her license in 2004 and works as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).
Passionate about helping others achieve their goals, Norma uses the therapeutic relationship to support, guide and empower. Employing a broad range of theories and therapies in order to allow for individual planning and treatment has proven key to client success.

Psychotherapy or “talk therapy” aims to enable clients to understand their feelings. Psychotherapy refers to a range of treatments that can help with mental health problems, emotional challenges, and some psychiatric disorders. Often the course of therapy lasts less than one year; even as few as two - ten sessions can be helpful. A 50 minute hour is the norm. Sessions may be every week, twice a month or once per month depending on client need.
